A Toy Manufacturer’s Promise That Will Make You More Mindful About Plastic
By Amelia Cunningham
Polluting our seas, harming animals and even proven to be a danger to us humans, this year there has been a real buzz around plastic. We are learning more and more about how we can try to protect the world we live in and we are even seeing an increasing number of companies start to reduce, if not completely abort, the plastic used to manufacture their products.
At Izzy and Harri we are passionate about stocking products that we know are ethically made and on World Environment Day last month, one of the toy company’s we stock products from, made an exciting pledge.
The big bosses behind the Lottie Dolls announced that they will be removing all unnecessary plastic from all of their products.
Lottie Dolls are currently sold in 32 countries around the world so they hope to make a small impact in reducing our planet’s plastic crisis.
In a short video, the Lottie MD commits tor reduce plastic in all of their packaging and has even promised to remove water-cooler plastic cups from his Letterkenny-based office. He finishes the video by calling for other toy manufacturers including Mattel and Hasbro, to reduce the amount of plastic they use.
We are extremely proud to be stocking Lottie Dolls and are totally behind their new promise and we currently offer eight different dolls from their collection which are perfect for children aged 3+.
Many of Lottie’s products, including the dolls, have come from the imaginations of children and we are passionate about offering products that kids actually want to play with.
If you have been following us for a while you will also know we are all for equality. We understand that there is an extreme amount of pressure put on little girls and boys in society which is increasingly shortening the childhoods for many.
The award-winning Lottie Dolls resemble more of what little girls actually look like, in comparison to other dolls who are tall and where lots of make-up, giving kids alternative positive role models to play with.
We love the idea of children playing with toys that are innovative, fun and educational, and the Lottie Dolls provide a great sense of empowerment for kids to imagine, explore and completely be themselves.
You can see all of our Lottie Doll range in our toy collection.
If you want to be more mindful about plastic and are keen start your doing your bit for a more safer and cleaner environment here are 6 simple ways you can stop using plastic at home:
1. Stop using plastic straws or purchase a reusable stainless steel or glass straw.
2. Use reusable bags. A single plastic bag can take 1,000 years to degrade so buy or make your own reusable bag and just be sure to give them a wash often.
3. Give up chewing gum. Gum is made of a synthetic rubber, aka plastic.
4. Use matches instead of disposable plastic lighters or buy a refillable metal lighter.
5. Make fresh squeezed juice using fruit instead of buying juice in plastic bottles. It’s healthier and better for the environment.
6. Make your own cleaning products that will be less toxic and eliminate the need for multiple plastic bottles of cleaner. See how to do it.
In addition to working towards reducing plastic, Last year, UK households binned 300,000 tonnes of clothing and we want to help reduce this number. We are passionate about sustainable products and we stock many clothes made from organic cotton which are designed to last. We hope to reduce the throw away clothing culture as these clothes can be passed down to siblings and friends.
Reduce, reuse, recycle!
